Hip Hip Hurray Kimmay!

The Miel Sisters go sweet on Hurray Kimmay! Brainchild of NYC lingerie expert Kim Caldwell, Hurray Kimmay is a knowledgeable, entertaining and inspiring blog on all things related to underwear. Looking for what you should wear under summer skirts? Kim’s got the lowdown on what goes on down below. Hesitating between underwire or wire-free? Kim keeps you abreast (so to speak) of the latest bra models and styles. Despite knowing a whole lot about bras, panties and myriad underpinnings, this skivvy-savvy siren has her sights set higher still and encourages women to celebrate what’s inside, outside and underneath. In her own words, she doesn’t only blog about boobies, she motivates us to say hurray! And this is why we love her!

For women who lack the time or desire to shop or who simply don’t have access to many lingerie stores, online shopping often comes in real handy. When purchasing bras or panties online, what advice can you offer ladies out there?

Online shopping is super convenient, but it comes with its own challenges. I just wrote an entire article on this very topic on about.com, where I'm the lingerie expert. I encourage women to get a bra fitting at a shop first, if possible. And then, try out several brands and styles online and compare so you'll be even better informed next time. Know your numbers (i.e., your measurements) and use the size charts and fit information on the site as a guide, but know that it takes a little trial and error before finding the perfect size and style for you.

The Miel Sisters are tickled pink that the miel® LUNA thong is featured in your list of most comfortable thongs. Thank you so much! In your opinion, are thongs well suited for every body type and every outfit? In other words, is there a right way and a thong way to plan one's outfit?

You're so welcome :D Thongs are awesome! But for me, comfort is key. Many women prefer thongs when wearing tight or sheer pants, so they can avoid panty lines. In addition, they can be great for working out or for active ladies who don't want to deal with the back of a panty shifting around all the time. I prefer thongs under yoga pants or tight jeans, and panties under full skirts. Whether it’s for style or comfort reasons, wearing what suits you is always the best way to say hurray.

You propose a "soulful approach to personal bra shopping," which is a far cry from many women's experience in the dressing room. Do you know something we don't?

I know a lot that you don't. Ha! I'm only half-kidding. The real reason I have such a different approach to undergarment shopping is because I use bra fitting as a tool for something bigger. My big goal in life is to upgrade the way that women talk to their bodies and themselves. There are so many ways to do this, and a bra fitting is my sharpest, most efficient tool to do so. Shopping for bras, taking off your clothes, looking in the mirror, addressing your bust - these are all opportunities to really see yourself, and find ways to honor your body, love yourself, and say hurray.

Do you have a bucket list? And if so, can you share an item or two?

I love to travel and have been to some great places, like Japan and Mexico... but I have never been to Europe - can you believe it?!  That's on my list, for sure.

Also on my list:
  • Ride an elephant in the jungle
  • Tour the country to teach young women about bras and their bodies
  • Be on the Today Show
  • Go to Puerto Rico (checking this one off soon!)

Last but not least, do you have a role model? Someone who inspires you to be a better person?

I'm so lucky to be surrounded by inspiring women all the time. Between my friends, family members, and the women in my circles... I'm on a constant receiving end of joy and motivation. I'm not sure I have a role model who I look up to for everything, but I do have some women who inspire me in many ways:

  • Chris Maddox, founder of The Wild Woman Project. I know Chris from college - she was my RA! - and now I'm a Wild Woman Circle leader, and a teacher at the upcoming Wild Woman Fest.  She is a beautiful example of diving deep into her soul and lovingly accepting the humanness in each of us.
  • Natalie MacNeil, founder of She Takes on the World and Soul Seconds. I love the way Natalie combines business and spirituality, and her genuine nature and hard work ethic are so inspiring!
