Caring for Your Underwear

Have you ever been caught in a compromising situation wearing underwear gone bad? I have and it’s not pretty. Let this be a tale of caution for all you ladies who don’t take proper care of your intimates.

It was a dark and stormy night when I unexpectedly hooked up with the guy I’d liked for months. As luck would have it, I was wearing old yet comfy briefs (read: super stretched out after many spins in the washer and dryer). Did I care? No, for I was deeply infatuated with this man. Did he notice? You bet, for this smart ass was not as infatuated with me. Did he comment? Oh, yes. My saggy apparel was apparently quite entertaining. How does one turn the other cheek after such a remark?

Lesson learned.

To maintain its elasticity, colour and shape, make no mistake: lingerie requires special care.

What is the best way to care for your fine apparel?

Hand washing is a must. I can hear you groan but trust me, it really does make a difference in the long run.

  1. Hand wash in cool water using a mild detergent. You only need a tiny amount of detergent in a small basin of water. We love soak’s no-rinse wash (visit soakwash.com for info), but any mild soap will do.

If machine wash is your only option, use a laundry bag and select a gentle cycle.

TIP If washing bright colours for the first time, add a bit of white vinegar to water to prevent colours from bleeding.

  1. Gently rub garments to remove dirt. Let soak for a few minutes.

  2. Rinse garments until water runs clear. Gently squeeze out excess water and wrap in towel to absorb moisture.

  3. Dry flat on clean towel or hang to dry. Thanks to its special blend of microfiber and Spandex, miel® underwear dries in a flash.

Now that the warm weather is finally here, there are no more excuses not to hang your laundry out to dry. Not only will your bras, panties and camisoles smell garden fresh and look as bright as the blooms in your garden, it will extend the life of your underwear.

About that wisecracking guy? Long forgotten. I was lucky to marry a man who not only does his own laundry but also appreciates me in underwear of all shapes and sizes!
