Digesting The Holidays

December is the month of holidays: Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Festivus, and others. With these beloved celebrations comes the inevitable: food food food! Many of us suffer from the Itis after a heavy Christmas meal. The only obvious cure is often a 14-hour nap.

After weeks of chocolates, latkes, Christmas cookies, heavy meats and gravy washed down by eggnog and holiday-themed Starbucks coffees, our stomachs sometimes swell and bloat--our belly's way of waving its white flag of surrender.

A healthy digestif (no not alcohol), is herbal and green tea. Green tea contains properties that aid in digestion, lower stress, lower cholesterol, and even help to prevent some cancers (due to the anti-oxidant properties).

Green tea also contains Epigallocatechin gallate, a substance that has anti-inflammatory effects in the gastrointestinal track. For these reasons we love tea for all occasions, especially after a big meal!

Tea shops and specialty stores seem to be becoming very popular in cities across Canada. One of our favorites in Montreal, David's Tea, has some amazing flavours worth trying.
